ARMA Opens ARMA Canada Call for Speakers

Update 12/8: ARMA has extended the submission deadline to December 22, 2023. 

ARMA has announced it is seeking speakers for the ARMA Canada Information Conference (ACIC), scheduled for May 12-14, 2024 in Calgary, Alberta. Detailed information about the submission process can be found at

Submissions are due no later than December 8, 2023; submit your proposal at

AIIM Announces Launch of Updated CIP Exam

Update 11/29/2023: AIIM has also issued a press release. 

AIIM has announced that the updated Certified Information Professional (CIP) exam is now live. The exam blueprint is substantially the same, but the exam questions are 100% new.

AIIM has also made several other changes that candidates should be aware of. 

• The cost of the exam has increased to $450. Note that anyone who purchases the exam by December 31, 2023 can still pay the old rate of $350, and you don't have to take the exam by then, just purchase it and take it within 1 calendar year. Use the code CIP2023 to get the discounted rate. 
• Candidates who fail the exam can retake it again at a reduced price of $75. 
• The exam is only available as an online proctored exam, i.e., no in-person test centers other than select AIIM events like AIIM24. 
• The exam platform has not changed - it's still the one that the CIP exam has been delivered on in recent years - and there are some things to be aware of. Specifically: 
• You must answer every question before you can continue to the next one
• There is no mechanism to flag questions for review
• There is no mechanism to review your answers before submitting them
• CIPs who let their CIP expire, i.e., do not renew their status within one year of their expiration date, will be considered lapsed and will have to take the exam again. If you're unsure of your status, send a note to hello@aiim.org. 
• The study guide has been updated and is available to AIIM+ Pro members in AIIM's Learning Management System. 

What hasn't changed: 

• Existing CIPs do NOT need to retake the exam to maintain their status, provided they submit their 60 CEUs within the 3-year window. Note that the renewal fee has increased to $175. 
• The practice exam has not been updated yet, but will be soon.

Full disclosure: I was a volunteer subject matter expert for the item writing and review and the score setting exercises. I had also previously approached AIIM about taking on some of the support for CIP and/or becoming an AIIM training partner. As of today, however, I have no formal relationship with AIIM other than as a paid professional (AIIM+ Pro) member, a Fellow, and a CIP. 

ARMA Seeks Nominations for the Board of Directors

ARMA International has opened its annual call for nominations to serve on the association's Board of Directors. ARMA is seeking to fill 2 Director positions for a three-year term from July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2027.

The qualifications to serve as a Director can be found at https://cdn.ymaws.com/armainternational.site-ym.com/resource/resmgr/files/boardelection/2024/2023-2024_director_qualifica.pdf. One key qualification: you must have served on the board of directors, an ARMA International Committee, or a chapter board, for at least one year within the previous 5 years. You must also have been a member in good standing for the previous 5 years. 

ARMA's Election and Campaign Policy. I would strongly encourage candidates to read it to be sure you can live with it. I know previous candidates have been told, or at least strongly encouraged, to stop blogging, writing, podcasting, etc. I was one of them when I ran for the board in 2006, and I've heard the same from at least one other candidate since then. 

Nominations must be submitted by December 4, 2023. Additional candidate materials are required to be submitted by December 11, 2023.
